The Road We Travelled

Bar Bar Black Sheep
When we arrived in Riebeek Kasteel seven years ago we had the fantastic opportunity to work with the brilliant minded Anton and Cecile Espost.  They had the concept of establishing a true peasant country restaurant at the bottom of Short Street in Riebeek Kasteel.  For starters the building was completely hidden from sight and had no street front, the kitchen was too small the bar too big, the restaurant floor to narrow, the tables and chairs too old and the summers too hot and winters too cold.  I remember one of the first things Anton said to me: "Just cook good food and the people will come!"  What followed was a five year stint of absolute magic.  We cooked and poured and plated our hearts out and the result was phenomenal!  We got it right to give people an experience that they would never forget and Bar Bar Black Sheep turned into a little magic spot where people could just let go, forget about tomorrow and be completely seduced by the Swartland and its flavours.  Everything counted against us but at the end of the day it was complete magic.  We share some of our proudest moments with you from clippings and article and take time to reminisce on a beautiful road travelled...
